Whether you have an existing account with Mailgun or need to start a new account, the instructions below will walk you through the process to enable sending email messages from your Loxo account through this Email Service Provider (ESP).
Before proceeding, do you even need Mailgun?
If your main goal is better outreach and making sure your emails actually land in inboxes, you don't need Mailgun to do that. What really makes a difference is keeping a good sender reputation and following daily sending proven practices. There's no quick fix, unfortunately. Building a solid sender reputation takes time and effort.
Using a traditional ESP like Mailgun isn't the magic bullet it once was. You're likely better off focusing your efforts elsewhere.
If you're working with a brand new domain or your current sending IP address has a less-than-stellar reputation, Mailgun could be a helpful tool. However, if you already have a good or even neutral IP reputation, you probably won't see a benefit from using Mailgun. It's possible their IP address pooling actually ends up hurting instead of helping.
The most reliable way to improve deliverability is to focus on genuine, targeted outreach and keep your email list clean and healthy. We have an article on email proven practices that you might find helpful!
If you are still committed to trying out Mailgun, follow the steps below.
Create a Mailgun Account
This should be as easy as enrolling here for free!
Set up Your Domain
Set up your Sending Domain in Mailgun using their Domain Verification Setup Guide. You'll then need to configure the DNS records for your domain to authenticate Mailgun to send email messages on your behalf. Your email administrator should be able to assist with this, or your team's IT provider, if you have one! Additionally, verify that all required DNS records, such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, show the status "Verified" in Mailgun. You can check these by logging into Mailgun, navigating to Send > Domains, and following their instructions under the DNS Records tab.
If the domain is already in use on another Mailgun account, a ticket can be opened with Mailgun's support team to verify the domain on your new account. The process involves creating a CNAME record and setting it to a value that their team provides in order for them to validate authenticity. Loxo only supports integration with a single Mailgun domain at a time. This restriction ensures a centralized management of email communications for your organization. If verification fails, double-check the DNS records entered against Mailgun's recommendations. It may take up to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate. If the issue continues, request re-verification through Mailgun’s support team.
