Add a Person via Drag & Drop

Download a PDF and then drag and drop it into Loxo to create a person record

There are many ways to add people to your Loxo account, and you can learn all about them in our Source Candidates collection. Among imports, uploads, and using Loxo Source to add people, you can also manually add a person using the intuitive drag-and-drop functionality for PDFs.

Drag and Drop a PDF Record into Loxo

To add a new file to your database using Drag & Drop, follow the instructions below:

  1. Download the resume file from an email or job board, or save the person's social media profile as a PDF.

    1. To download a PDF of a profile from social media, click the 'More' icon on a person's profile*.

    2. Select "Save to PDF."

  2. Once the file is saved to your device, you can physically drag and drop the file with your mouse or trackpad into Loxo.

    1. To drag and drop, click and hold the file, bring it over to your database, and let go over a blank space to begin the upload process. This will create a new profile in Loxo. If you "drop" on top of a candidate, the resume and data will be added to their profile.

  3. Most information will be parsed over automatically, but you can update or modify the profile details as needed. You can even add them to a job. When you're ready to add the person to your database, click Create in the bottom right corner.

Ta-da! You've successfully created a person record in Loxo.

Frequently Asked Questions about PDF Drag and Drop

Does the picture load from drag and drop?

YES! If a picture is available, it will automatically be added to the person's record in Loxo when you use the drag and drop functionality. On the rare occasion that a picture is not available, you can still manually add a picture to a profile in Loxo. To manually add a picture, you'll first need to save the profile picture to your computer. Navigate to the person's profile in Loxo and hover over the profile picture area to reveal the pencil icon. Click the pencil icon, select the image from your computer, upload, and save.

Can I add someone to a job from this screen?

Yes! You can add someone directly to a job right from the import screen when you upload a profile using drag and drop in Loxo. Simply start typing the name of the job and select it from the dropdown list.

Does the Location populate?

Yes, the location should populate in Loxo if it is available on the file that you used to create the record via drag and drop. If the location is not populating automatically, it may be due to the formatting of the file. Since you have the data, you can simply copy and paste the location onto the profile in Loxo.

Should I be using this instead of clicking on the Loxo Chrome Extension?

The Chrome Extension was designed to save you steps in creating person records, and the drag and drop functionality is similar. You can use either the Chrome Extension or drag and drop to create new people records - you know what works best for your workflow, and it's nice to have different options.

My downloaded PDF automatically opens, so I can't drag and drop. What should I do?

If your PDF automatically opens a full file, you can try changing your download settings. To change your download settings on your computer, start by opening Chrome.

  1. At the top right, click More Settings.

  2. At the bottom, click Advanced.

  3. Under the "Downloads" section, adjust your download settings: To change the default download location, click Change and select where you'd like your files to be saved.

Does the drag and drop feature identify duplicates?

Duplicate records will not be recognized before you create the profile via the drag and drop method. However, they will be highlighted after the person is imported, and you can choose to merge once the profile has been created.

Why can't I drag and drop from Outlook into Loxo?

The newer version of Outlook does not support the dragging and dropping of files directly from your email client. This is due to a limitation on Outlook's end. You should be able to revert to the older version of Outlook, which should still support the drag and drop functionality. You can also save the file from Outlook and drag and drop it into Loxo directly from your computer.
