Whether you are impacted by the United States A2P regulation, you want to incorporate more GDPR management in your database, or you are just interested in tracking who wants (or doesn’t want) to hear from you, the SMS Consent field gives you a streamlined way to manage this.
A2P messaging regulations mandate that businesses obtain explicit user consent before sending SMS messages, ensuring responsible texting practices while remaining compliant with industry standards.
There are three levels of consent for each person: No Consent, Opted-In, or Opted-Out. This article explains how to enable SMS Consent functionality in Loxo, how to change a person's SMS consent status, and answers common questions about how SMS Consent applies within Outreach Campaigns.

Enable SMS Consent Tracking for Your Loxo Account
Before you can track an individual's opt-in status for SMS communications, an account admin will need to turn on SMS Consent Tracking. Once SMS Consent has been activated, the team can manage each person's consent for texting. Loxo Outreach Campaigns will even honor a person's consent status for your automated SMS.
Businesses may also need to complete the A2P registration process to fully activate SMS functionalities and ensure compliance with industry regulations. Additionally, users can be added to the subscribed list through two primary methods: explicitly opting in via website sign-up forms or through position applications on Loxo, where candidates are given the option to consent to SMS communications. Ensuring visible and compliant opt-in mechanisms is essential.
Follow the instructions below to use Loxo's SMS Consent feature.
Navigate to Settings > Compliance.
Click the 'Outreach' tab at the top of the Compliance page.
Locate the "Require SMS Consent" field and switch the toggle to ON.
SMS Consent tracking will be enabled for the account moving forward and can be utilized to help you manage SMS messaging in outreach.
Update a Person's SMS Consent Status
SMS Consent is managed for each person individually, so you can manage their SMS Consent directly on their profile page. When you have "Require SMS consent" enabled, by default, each person added to your database will be marked as "No Consent" until you have received their opt-in or consent to receive SMS. Users may choose to provide consent through explicit website forms or during job applications, allowing administrators to track and update SMS Consent accordingly.
To change a person's SMS Consent status, follow the steps below.
Open the person's profile. This can be done from the People page, a Job Pipeline, etc.
View the 'Details' section on the right. Scroll down to the bottom to view the SMS Consent field.
Click the pencil icon in the SMS Consent field. This will open a small pop-up window.
Click the arrow to open the dropdown menu.
Select the appropriate option for that person and click Save.
View the updated SMS Consent status on the person's profile.
If they've opted-in, the status will be displayed in green.
If they've opted-out, their status will turn red.
When someone has opted out, you will see a 'Has opted out' reminder above the texting icon if you try to text them from their profile. Any SMS sent through an Outreach Campaign will also be blocked or prevented from sending.
SMS Consent Feature FAQs
Continue reading below to learn more about the SMS Consent feature and how it relates to you and your business.
Who can use the SMS Consent feature?
The SMS Consent feature can be enabled in any account. It is not specific to any country or customer group. To enable the feature, though, you must be an admin for your team.
What is the default SMS Consent setting for new people?
When a new person is added to your Loxo database, they will automatically be added with a 'No Consent' tag if you have "Require SMS Consent" enabled. The Opted-In or Opted-Out labels can be applied to each person by a member of your team after the person's SMS Consent Status has been confirmed, typically via a phone call or email exchange.
Can I bulk update SMS Consent?
Not at this time, as SMS Consent is managed on an individual level. To update someone's SMS Consent Status, you must navigate to their person profile in your database and update the field via the above steps.
How does SMS Consent Status affect Outreach Campaigns?
The SMS Consent feature was designed to help you manage Outreach Campaigns so that you can maintain automation and efficiency while remaining compliant with consent. If you set up an Outreach Campaign that includes SMS text messaging, text messages will only be sent to people who have been marked as Opted-In. Any person in the campaign who is marked as "No Consent" or "Opted-Out" will simply skip the text message stage of the Outreach Campaign. Additionally, while viewing unsubscribed contacts in-app isn't currently an option within Loxo, Loxo allows you to request the unsubscribe list via their support team for compliance and management purposes.
